It is so important for children to get outdoors for some fresh air, fun and exercise, so I love seeing my kids enjoy their bikes and scooters. Last year Boo took the step of removing her stabilisers and did really well on two wheels. Pinky on the other hand was not ready, she was too cautious and slow to manage on two wheels at that point.
However, this week, out of the blue Pinky suddenly asked if she could have her stabilisers taken off. We were a bit cautious, as we weren’t sure if she was ready yet, but, we decided to give her a try.
We took a picnic to the park so everyone could have a play and a ride around. Pinky was so excited and couldn’t wait. To my pleasant surprise, she did brilliantly! She rode around on just two wheels much easier than I thought she would.
Pinky struggled for a while starting off, she kept wanting to put both feet on the pedals before starting, which of course meant she fell side ways, but eventually she realised she had to start with one foot on a pedal, then push off.
She had a lot of perseverance and kept trying and trying. I am very pleased she didn’t get frustrated like I thought she might and it payed off. By the end of the time in the park Pinky was riding on two wheels! She completed her biking achievement and absolutely LOVES it!
Pinky was a bit wobbly for a while and as you can see from this short video forgets to use her breaks sometimes, but she has really got the hang of a difficult skill, I am very proud!
