I was visiting on Monday evening to meet with Jennifer Ratnayake for facial acupuncture. Jennifer has been practicing traditional chinese medicine for over 13 years, using the more traditionally known acupuncture for many people & problems. Having had acupuncture myself a few years ago while we were going through IVF I knew the benefits of it and I was intrigued to see how it would work for cosmetic reasons. It’s been back in the press recently after Louise Redknapp was filmed having a course of treatments for the Channel 4 programme, How Not To Get Old but it first came into the spotlight when Kate Shapland visited Jennifer & recommended her to the world.
Since having The Boy I’ve been really anti traditional medicines, nothing seems to work for me anymore & I would much rather take the natural approach where possible. I’ve always been interested in alternative therapies, Chinese medicine and so on. I could have chatted to Jennifer for hours!
After an in depth consultation, where Jennifer went through everything to do with my health & not just my wrinkle complaints, it was time for the acupuncture. I have to admit, I was a bit nervous it would hurt more than normal, but apart from a few areas, the ears in particular, it wasn’t at all painful.
The point of facial acupuncture is to relax the face muscles completely, promoting anti-ageing & healing and stimulating collagen production. As with traditional acu, it unblocks energy channels and encourages blood flow, helping to remove toxins and give an amazing glow to the skin.
Alongside a healthy diet & exercise plan, a course of facial acupuncture can slow down the signs of ageing & leave you looking radiant. Jennifer placed all the needles in their positions then left me to relax for 20 mins with some gentle music playing in the background. I’m not really the type to switch off that quickly but I did close my eyes and relax. As well as the needles in my face I had some in my feet, legs, arms and hands. I’m convinced that one or some of the needles eased my arthritis in my left hand.
Once the 20 mins was up, Jennifer came back in, removed the needles and then gave me one of the best facial massages I’ve ever had! I was so relaxed I forgot to ask what the oil was, but it smelt amazing. I left the clinic feeling like I’d had a whole body massage!
After just the one session I really could notice a difference in my face. Perhaps not in the anti-ageing area as I don’t have that many wrinkles, but my skin looked healthier, more awake and 100% more radiant. Even the husband said he could see a difference.
It’s recommended that you have between 6-10 sessions depending on your age or your skin issues, some people go every week, some go as and when they want a boost. I’ve always said I would be getting Botox as soon as I hit 35, but after just 55 mins at AnaMaya Health I’ve completely changed my mind, I will be going for some more treatments asap, even if it just slows everything down it’s worth it and a lot less invasive than any of the other anti-ageing treatments out there.
Traditional Chinese Medicine costs £75 for 55 mins & Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture costs £85 for 55 mins with Jennifer. Visit www.anamaya.co.uk for more details and to book appointments.
