Guru in your Inbox…
A few weeks ago I was having a stress attack (as I do) about what clothes *actually* suited me – I have a wardrobe full of stuff but I never seem to have anything to wear, sound familiar!? In fact, my Dad bought me a sign once that says “I spend my whole life shopping and I still have nothing to wear” see, I’m known for it! The poor hubs has learnt to duck when I’m having one of “those” days. Clothes can come flying out of my wardrobe at the speed of light when I’m really going for it. Anyway.
My mate on Twitter, the lovely Vicky has set up a new business where she offers various packages to help people find what really suits them. She does Colour Analysis (I’m autumn) Make up, Styling and Personal Shopping but she offered me a taster of her new service, Guru in your Inbox. In a nutshell, she sends you a couple of questionnaires and you send her some photos of your either in your undies, or fitted shorts and vest. She will then assess your body shape, colouring and so on and give you a list of things to avoid like the plague (t-shirt maxi dresses for me) and things that will actually suit you.
For me, she said I have lovely legs, great arms and fab boobs (and I didn’t even pay her!) so I need to get the legs out more, which will detract from my least favourite place, the belly. Bright skinny jeans, patterned leggings, shorter skirts, that sort of thing. V necks are my best friend and I should never ever wear polo necks – I knew this because they make me look like I am one giant breast. Not a good look. Colour wise, navy, turquoise, emerald green and khaki are good ones to go with, brighter and tighter on the lower half, looser and plainer on the top half.
I *loved* her description of my personality, even if it’s only semi true I’m still claiming it!
You’ve a strong personality and an innovative and creative style. You like (and sometimes need) your own space and independence and freedom are important to you. You don’t like to be tied to any one “style” just because it’s a current look, you march to your own beat. Your brain works fast and you’re very adaptable and welcome change. You’re inspirational to those around you.
Now, I can’t really afford a personal shopper, as much as I would love one – money or time wise so this for me was perfect. An email on my phone with a list of do’s and don’t's that I can check while I’m shopping and for some reason what she has said has stuck with me. I’ve never thought of myself as an hourglass shape, more of a lollipop (round on top with skinny legs poking out) but to have your shape viewed by someone else, not your husband, really opens your eyes to what you’re seeing and what other people see. Something I always have issues with!
The package I had is just newly launched and it’s £50 for the initial consultation & recommendations, then £15 per outfit/occasion recommendation after that. So you can get your basics sorted, then if something fancy comes along a few weeks/months down the line, you can check in with her again and she’ll tell you what angle to go for. I bloody love it!
Have a look at her site, The Image Guru and let me know if you book anything in. I know a few ladies on twitter have had their colour analysis done and loved it. If Vicky was closer I’d be round there having that & my make up colours done, just to check I’ve got them right.
