At 20:20 on the 12th October 2002, our lives changed forever. Three weeks early, with the darkest, thickest hair I’d ever seen on a newborn baby, our little GG came into the world. She didn’t cry once, in fact, I remember asking the midwife what was wrong with her, to which she replied with a laugh and said she was perfect. Big, and I mean big, blue eyes staring at me, at everyone, just drinking it all in, not one single whimper from her. Almost like she was happy she was finally here, ready to greet the world.

We became the best of friends from that moment, my little girl, the one who kept me awake at night because she was hungry or wanted a cuddle, and the one who still keeps me awake at night because she’s growing up too fast!

Her hair may have got lighter & her eyes changed from blue to green, but she’s still the same little girl, quietly drinking it all in, not moaning about anything, just always making the most, and the best, of everything. She is so smart, I know a lot of mums say that, but she really is, she’s kind, gentle, funny, sometimes she can be a pain in the backside of course, but, as my best friend told me last week, I struck lucky when I had GG. She is one in a million.

So, Happy 10th Birthday to the best daughter a mum could ever, ever ask for. I can’t believe you’re in double figures now. It seems so clear, like yesterday, when you were born. I hope the next 10 don’t go quite as fast.
